As I said in a post about BREAKING BAD, most men's downfalls aren't due to some colossal mistake. Ruin doesn't usually come quickly, from catastrophic strikes or earth-shattering collisions; no, like rot it starts slowly, subtly, from just one weakness or imperfection. One Seemingly Unimportant Decision
Still, it's a flaw of a man's ambition that often we choose to skip over that slight imperfection, discount it like the speed bump it is, something to be powered over without a thought or worry, never thinking that that speed bump might be responsible for a slight problem with alignment which can lead to premature tire wear and engine stress which can lead to a complete drive train failure. Which can ruin your goddamn vehicle. As such, every week we'll point out the SUD of the week to 1) make fun of the poor bastard and 2) help our readers not make the same rotten mistake.
This week's SUD is Herman Cain's sexual harassment debacle.
Herman Cain has been a bit of a joke this whole election period, from his "black Sarah Palin" hearsay spouting to his "badass campaign head smoking" video, he seems to be establishing himself as little more than the GOP's token black, their bigoted answer to the black in the white house. "Those liberals, they want a black, we got any black republicans? Ahh, here we go, he even seems like a gospel speaker, they're interchangeable but this one is anti-Obama, we'll win now, absolutely."
Still, he had a fighting chance. But with this new sexual harassment charge, that ship is starting to look like a mastless1825 cutter, dead in the water with sharks circling and a sizable hole under the bow.
Perhaps Cain, as he says, never actually did anything. He claims not to remember doing anything and I like to give a man the benefit of the doubt. But not only did 2 women raise allegations against him a decade ago, they were both paid severances equal to a year's salary. Now a third woman is coming out of the woodwork, saying he propositioned her as well but she just never filed any charges.
So not only did he make some sort of disparaging remarks (which he and his staffers claim were just jokes, just casual fun) but he made the HUGE mistake of paying the women off. So even if he's innocent, he looks guilty.
SUD OF THE WEEK: Paying People Hush Money, Thinking Problems Will Go Away.
Because they never do.
