Halloween's Best Horror Movies

Have you ever watched a horror movie so terrifying that it haunted your innermost being? Each night for months following the viewing, your mind continues to replay that piece of cinema gold which made you sweat, fear, and avert your eyes in terror. You see vampires lurking in the corners and random hackers ready to pounce. Each night you have nightmares and during dusk saunters you keep your head on a swivel, preparing for any upcoming dangers. These aftershocks are what make horror movies so great.
As an avid horror fan, I take deep pride in knowing that my genre is considered a cult sector. The majority of people watch Comedies, Drama, Romance, Action, and Adventure; not many have twisted enough minds to enjoy horror.
Besides the ability to make the unreal real, it’s a style of movie that continues to adapt with the times. There are several classics which will be forever known as infamous works of art and without these classics, the horror movie division of the industry would not still exist. The issue that arises is: are these movies scary? There is a large list of great horror classics that set the standard for beautiful cinema like Nosferatu, Dracula, Night of the Living Dead, The Exorcist, the Shining, The Thing, Psycho, The Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, Jaws, and ALIENS. These movies captivate the audience with their beautiful storytelling, character development, and groundbreaking terror, but do they hold up to today’s standards of scary? While these might be considered the best horror movies of all time, and that I’m not debating, are they scariest movies of all time? At their inception, yes, but with all of the movies that have been created since then, I would say that they don’t hold up in today’s world of desensitized viewership.
The standard human has been desensitized with the death, gore, pain, and fear that found in an average movie or a newspaper article. Because of this, movies have had to adapt in order to maintain their high level of terror. Nowadays, what scares the standard horror fan are porn gore, mutilated bodies, ghosts and haunted monsters that attack at the most vulnerable times, seemingly realistic creeped out situations, and contorted bodies.
After further analysis, I have created two lists. The first list consists of the top 15 horror movies ever made.  Now, for those of you who want to know what the scariest movies of all time are truly, they are in the second list. Please note that some of these movies are so good, that they made both lists:

HORROR CLASSICS
1.       THE EXORCIST- This amazingly directed movie takes great acting, an amazing screenplay, and a great theme and combines them in order to create the most celebrated movie in horror history.
2.       NOSFERATU-One of the first horror movies ever, this silent movie had the most terrifying Dracula on the big screen.
3.       ROSEMARY’S BABY- every character in this film is just creepy enough to keep you on the edge of your seat
4.       THE SHINING-Stephen King. Stanley Kubrick. Enough said
5.       PSYCHO-The shower scene is one of the most famous scenes of all time in any movie genre.
6.       THE THING-Kurt Russel stuck in a remote outpost with an extra-terrestrial creature who can adapt to anyone creates the utmost suspense. Best sci-fi horror movie ever.
7.       POLTERGEIST- A normal family in suburbia feels way more real than an odd family living in an old abandoned house in the middle of nowhere
8.       JAWS- After watching this, you will always wonder what is underneath the water’s surface
9.       ALIENS-While its predecessor was solid, the extra element of different Alien species adds a new level of fear. The second best Sci-Fi movie, ever.
I     INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS-Great ending to this flick
JU-ON-This movie is so well done, it is difficult to watch the entire time
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD-This movie has probably the most spinoffs in horror movie history. It was also one of the first movies to make an African American the lead and a hero.
SILENCE OF THE LAMBS-a great story line and unbelievable acting makes this movie a thing of gold.
HALLOWEEN-John Carpenter’s ability to create suspense is unparallel. The scene where he appears slowly from the shadows was genius.
THE RING-Who would of thought a movie with this premise would be so damn scary
16  FRIDAY THE 13TH -While it is not the first hacker movie, it was the movie that pushed hacker movies into mainstream America. One of the most shocking endings ever
17  DRACULA- Twilight does not have shit on this Vampire Thriller
18  SCREAM-Wes Craven’s genius teen horror movie that makes fun of the drama yet leaves the audience tense throughout
19  BLAIR WITCH PROJECT-This realistic take done in a POV style has become a staple in the genre
20  THE HAUNTING-Knowing that  a House has evil plans makes you second guess moving
2    INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE-Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt with a young (hot) Kirstin Dunst. Boom
22  BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA-This creation of the legendary novel does it justice. Even with Keanu Reeves in it.
THE EVIL DEAD II-This Sam Raimi’s follow up to the Evil Dead is even better than first
THE LOST BOYS- While not completely terrifying, this movie is a cult classic
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET- Freddy Kreuger’s name is synonymous with horror.
Those were the best horror movies of all time. Below are the scariest movies of all time.

SCARIEST HORROR MOVIES
1.       THE SHINING-This Stanley Kubrick classic still reigns supreme by including gore, creepy building scenes, and the character development that causes the viewer to care when they are about to be mutilated into pieces of ground beef.
2.       JU-ON-This terrifying movie is so good that the American version, the Grudge, was just as terrifying. Contorted bodies are freaky as shit.
3.       THE RING-Please read the contorted statement above.
4.       REC-This has to be considered the scariest Spanish made movie of all time and in fact had an American version created because of its international success
5.       28 DAYS LATER-This reinvention of the zombie genre takes away any shed of safety that existed in original zombie movies such as speed of pursuit, ability to take down, and lack of bloodlust.
6.       SAW-This movie another adaption of porn gore; this indie became one of the most famous franchises in recent cinema history
7.       HOSTEL- This movie made porn gore popular and leaves viewers with images so dark they will never forget them.
8.       AUDITION- This creepy movie makes you shy away from going on dates for awhile
9.       PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2- This prequel  to the international POV phenomenon takes elements of the first movie and quickens the pace while adding the vulnerability of having one’s child involved
1         BLACK CHRISTMAS-The original makes you shriek in terror
EVENT HORIZON-Try watching this sci-fi Thriller alone. I guarantee nightmares
THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT-You will never want to go camping again
1     HALLOWEEN-The suspense will still get you today even after watching it a thousand times. Run Jamie, run.
1    THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE- This slasher romp still holds up today
SCREAM-While I’m not opposed to Neve Campbell being murdered, this movie provides a lot of reflex screams
DESCENT-A bunch of beautiful adventurous woman should never risk their lives in unknown territory
1    SILENCE OF THE LAMBS-even the most intelligent individuals with a distinguished palate can still be as sick and twisted as the darkest of humans
THE EXORCIST-while this movie does not hold up to the desensitized viewers, it still is pretty damn creepy.
SUSPIRIA-Don’t try to understand what the hell goes on with this movie. Just sit back, relax, and shit your pants
30 DAYS OF NIGHT-This intense Vampire flick mixes ugly vampires, gore, and Josh Hartnett. Scary
MISERY-Kathy Bates is reason enough to get freaked out and this movie teaches you a valuable lesson; do not talk to strangers. The breaking scene still makes me cringe.
ORPHAN-This under rated horror movie with Vera Farmiga is a true mind fuck
DAWN OF THE DEAD- This movie directed by George Romero might not be the classic his first zombie flick was, but this one is way more terrifying and gory. You know it’s good when it’s banned in 17 countries upon its release.
THE CHANGELING-I hate Haunted Houses who think for themselves
SALEM’S LOT-These vampires need their teeth fixed asap.
